CNAs are the foundation of nursing care. They handle the heavy lifting. They build
bonds with their patients. They work hard to help others feel independent and safe.
Ultimately, CNAs often become part of our residents’ regular lives and families.
Typical Job Duties –
Answering all call lights/bells and resident requests in a timely manner;
Bathing, shaving, shampooing, combing hair, dressing, and providing mouth care
and nail care for residents requiring assistance;
Serving meals and nourishment to residents, assisting those requiring help, and
recording intake;
Taking and recording blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, respiration
rate, and oxygen saturation level;
Maintaining a record of care and observations, resident care profiles, and ADLs;
Reporting orally any deviation in the resident’s condition to Charge Nurse;
Observing and noting the condition of skin, hair, nails, and mouth;
Performing passive and active range of motion exercises;
Transferring residents to and from bed or chair and positioning the resident in
proper body alignment;
Participating in resident socialization and unit activities;
Maintaining cleanliness and neatness of the resident’s room and equipment;
Participating in infection control programs by using proper handwashing
techniques, avoiding cross-contamination, and using proper isolation techniques
as required;
Reporting incidents and accidents to Charge Nurse;
Assisting in orienting residents to the facility environment and routines upon
admission and as needed throughout their stay;
Minimum Qualifications –
Possession of a New York State* certificate of completion of Nurse Aide Training
Course.
*State Regulations: Pursuant to New York State regulations, Title 10, Part 415.13 (c) (v),
a nursing home may use as a nurse aide any individual certified as a nurse aide by
another state provided the facility verifies that the individual is listed in the other state registry and has applied to the Department of Health for New York certification.
